Immobilized By Accusation
Ezra 4 tells the story of how the enemy was able to stop the Jews from following the call of God. The enemy first lied in an effort to bring the Jews down from the inside. When that didn't work, the enemy tried to exert influences from the outside to discourage the Jews and frustrate the plans of God. When that failed, the enemy accused them. While the accusation appealed to the greed and pride of the king, it also pointed to the history of the Jews. The enemy suggested that the history of the Jews was an indication that this present work of God would end up no different than the past. The king believed it and ordered the construction of the temple to be stopped at once. In the same way, the enemy will accuse me as God works in my life. He will remind me of my past to make me think that the work God is doing in me and through me will be no different than it was before. I can stand accused and allow my past to keep me from my future or I can stand on the name of Jesus and face my accuser without shame. Because of Christ, I stand accused no more. I don't have to be immobilized by guilt. Instead, I can move forward in the plans and purpose God has for my life because I am declared not guilty by the blood of Christ. It's not who you were, it's who you are in Christ that's important.
